Areas of Development

An important area of future development for me is shipping. Because my process involves constant iteration and improvement, there is never really a finished product. Instead, whatever is left when the deadline arrives is to best it could be.

However, this presents a problem when there are no hard deadlines, like a personal project. Then, I tend to never ship the product because it is never perfect enough.

Because I believe that the engineering design process should include this sort of iteration and improvement, there is only one way to ever ship a product. Deadlines must be set so that the improvement of the product from the investment of time is optimized.

Therefore, one of my goals in development as an engineering designer is to choose the right deadlines for myself and complete the project as best as possible in that time frame.

Iteration is the enemy of shipping.
