Design Portfolio

In order to exhibit my evolving design process, artifacts from various points in my development have been included in my portfolio. Click on them to learn more.
Request for Proposals

A request for proposals was issued with the aim of improving the lived experience of air traffic controllers at Pearson International Airport. The problem to be addressed was the user interface of the controllers, which was shown to increase cognitive load on the controller.

Praxis II Design Proposal

The purpose of the design proposal was to improve the quality of curling ice at the Leaside Curling Club.

Using design processes, tools, and techniques developed the previous semester, the team developed a two part solution to the problem.

The project concluded with the Praxis II Showcase at Hart House's Great Hall.

Product Design Project

This project showcases conceptual work, but also ends with a prototype being created.

In this project, a design brief requesting a redesign of clothes hangers was given to our group. Through a structured design process, we developed a conceptual design report, sub-contracted detailed design reports, and finally wrapped up the project with a Kickstarter project.

Finales Funkeln

This project mostly showcases prototyping work.

The Finales Funkeln plugs into your sound system and flashes in synch with the beat. Given the blueprints for a circuit, it was required for us to build the circuit and an appropriate enclosure for it. Safety was a major design factor.

Matboard Bridge Design Competition

This project showcases a design that was prototyped before sufficient conceptual work was done.

The goal of this project was to build a model bridge out of the provided materials that would span a specified distance. The bridge was tested first with a dynamic load, then with an increasing static load until failure. The objective was to maximize the static load without failing the dynamic loading test.

Nerves of Steel

This project showcases both the conceptual and prototyping phases of design.

A grade 11 electronics competition involved the design of a robot to complete a startup routine, run a race, and stop within a prescribed finish zone.

Design Brief

This project showcases the conceptual phase of design.

This project required creating a design brief, then pitching it to classmates as a splartkz - an everyday annoyance. The inability for current products to maintain an optimal temperature for (warm) drinks was chosen as a splarkz.
